*Comstructing doll*
Stretch work out. Turn right way ie outside in.
Cinch each end and fold into each other ie as you would a beanie.
Match all colours up.
Pink shoe colour at open base and cinched face colour at top.
Place a stitch marker at the front of your work. See pic and lime green marker.
This helps you know front and back.
Count 5 rows from the bottom row of the face colour - from where it meets the dress colour.
See pic with lilac stitch marker. This will be where the head/neck cinch happens later.
Then count 8 rows down from the crown of the head - see blue stitch marker. This will be where the hairline is.
*Eyes*
Count 3 rows down from the hairline marker (blue in pictures) - using this row find where you want your eyes to be and mark with either a stitch marker or bamboo pins (see pic, pic is from Groom pattern).
I stuffed head first so I could see how eyes would really look.
To help keep amigurumi eyes stable I use either a felt circle with a small hole (made by embroidery scissors). Or i make a small crocheted circle -
Form a magic ring ch1, 6 sc (dc UK terms) then slip stitch together, close hole till it will fit an eye stem into it. Secure yarn tails.
See pics.
Insert eyes and secure.
*stuffing doll
Stuff head & body to your preference & shape doll - i rub it between my hands like shaping a plasticine sausage.
Once shaped & aligned you need to secure the feet.
I chose to fasten as you would a straight edged scarf. I secured the ends with bamboo pins (see image). & sewed them together.
Example from Groom pattern.
*Neck*
Take a generous length of the face/body yarn. Attach with a slip stitch to rear of neck on the same row as the lilac stitch marker - with darning needle work around neck in every other stitch (see pic) back to the starting stitch/tail. Then cinch to how thin or thick you want your neck. Then secure with a quick knot and then wrap yarn around neck a few times to keep neck looking tidy - see pic. And fasten off and hide ends.
*For legs & feet -
Then count 7 stitches from side of legs then count 17 stitches from the bottom & mark with a bamboo pin or alternative - take a darning needle & length of black yarn secure at bottom of feet and insert by 17th stitch pin. Repeat 5 times, fasten off at bottom. Insert ends into doll to hide.
That forms legs.
Example pic from Groom pattern
*Arms*
Count 6 stitches down from neck cinch and count 6 stitches towards the back. See pictures.
Use same stitch as legs to secure arm.
Repeat on opposite side for 2 arms.
*Hands*
For hands, use baby pink yarn. Attach at rear bottom of arm and use a wrap stitch to form a bucket hand shape. See pic.
*Dress*
22 pin - Cast on with dress colour for 28rows. Cast off with darning needle.
Keep tube open and put on doll just underneath hands. Ensure tail is at rear of doll.
Cinch waist to your preference and stitch onto doll. See pic.
Cinch bottom slightly - only enough to tidy up the bottom of skirt. Then secure yarn and leave tail at rear - secure if you don't want a drop stitch over skirt.
*Drop stitch skirt* (optional)
Leave a long tail.
Cast on with dress colour for 25 rows.
Cast off every other stitch with darning needle. (See pics)
Be careful as we now need to secure the cast on end.
Carefully turn work right side out.
Find a row toward the bottom of the cast on end. - secure as in pics a safety row. (I used contrasting yarn for clarity). And secure tails
Then pull work to drop stitches.
If you need video tutorials look up drop stitch patterns on YouTube.
(I have included pictures - if in doubt there are brilliant YouTube tutorials for drop stitch scarves that use the same methods.)
Turn tube in on itself, like a beanie, right side outward.
As in pictures (again I used contrast yarn for clarity), take dress colour and stitch through top of skirt to cinch.
As with the other skirt, pull overskirt on doll, put tails to the rear of doll. Cinch to desired point. Secure to doll with stitches.
For bottom of overskirt cinch slightly, just to tidy up. Secure tail and hide ends.
*Hair*
There are alot of ways to do ragdoll hair. If you don't like the method used here, look up YouTube tutorials.
*- take a CD case 5" by 5.5" or a 5" to 5.5" quilting square. And wrap hair coloured yarn around the CD case/square from one end to the other.
I used a bright yarn for pics to stand out from CD case.
Then take thin scissors or a larger seam ripper and cut the yarn off the case.
Lay these strands of yarn flat. Then separate into bunches of 8 strands.
Then take a long length of hair yarn, approx 30cm's long. Use a darning needle and follow these images.
Then take the first bunch of 8 strands and place as in this picture.
Secure as the following pictures. And repeat until all strands are used.
When you get to the end, secure with a slip stitch then stitch over the parting to tidy it up.
Go over hair to the front then under hair to return to back of head. Ensure head is still shaped right and hair secure then secure yarn but leave tail.
Then using a darning needle take the front strand (highlighted in below pic), take it under the hair to the back of head. Secure with other tail and hid ends in head.
Tidy hair and style to your choice.
*Accessories*
*Waist belt/detailing - i took a length of shoe coloured yarn joined it at the back of the dolls waist, then wrapped it neatly around the waist and join of skirt as many times as you choose. I opted for 10. Fasten off at rear of waist and hide ends in doll.
*Neck choker - same as waist belt attach a long length of shoe yarn at rear of neck neatly wrap at least 20 times and secure at rear of neck and hide ends.
*Dress wrap - take 8 strands of shoe yarn at 30cm long. Place neatly around the top of the dress and around shoulders, tie at rear with a decorative double knot and cut off a tidy length train.
*Head band/wrap -
I took 8 strands of the shoe yarn at 15-20cm in length wrapped it neatly around the head and tied in a secure bow with tidy tails.
