Sentro or addi 22 pin
Measure handles as in picture below.
Take the measurement - my bag/purse handles are 14 inches.
Take the rule of thumb that 1 inch = 5 rows
14×5 = 70 rows
This pattern I used a 22pin sentro/addi.
I chose a coffee shades varigated yarn in a baby dk weight. Brand Ilauke.
I chose to cinch the ends but if it fits your bag/purse handle shape make tube with straight ends, as you would a scarf.
Cast on with chosen yarn colour - for my bag/purse i need 70 rows.
The sentro 22 doesn't have a row counter so I count every 5 to ten rows & mark the row with a stitch marker.
I joined the tube around the handle with bobby pins first to get the joining stitches to match.
There's now several different ways to join to bag - permanently with a mattress stitch or a crochet braid join.
Or temporarily with a zip/zipper sewn into either side then used to fasten on & off the handle for washing, for swapping out colours, designs etc.
Velcro, the same as the zip/zipper.
Or a ribbon, leather/leatherette strip or combined yarn strands laced through the edges to join onto the handle to tie. Then can be untied to remove protector as and when desired.
I opted for yarn strands in the same yarn as the tube for this pattern. It'd be fun to do contrasting colours too.
I started from one end with 8 strands of yarn at 47 inches/120cm long. Gathered together with a large eyed yarn needle (the 2 i used came free with a, machine, kit or magazine).
I counted 35 rows from top of tube & marked with a bamboo pin.
Then start by treading the yarn bundle through both sides as you would thread shoe lace.
I missed a stitch (see bamboo pin in picture) then threaded from opposite side, as you'd crossed (X) thread a trainer/sneaker. Continue threading both threads alternating between the two into each 2nd stitch until you get to the 11th row.
Once I reached row 11 I used a metal peg to hold the strands together & out of the way.
Then repeat from the otherside of the tube. To the 11th row marker.
All strands in the middle. Gathered together and knot into a slip knot.
Tidy up slipknot & trim tassle to desired length.
Finished handle protector.
