*Groom pattern*
No waste yarn
Cast on with hair colour for 8 rows
Colour change to face colour for 12 rows
Colour change to shirt colour for 12 rows
Colour change to trouser and shoe colour for 40 rows
Colour change to shirt colour for 12 rows
Colour change to face colour for 12 rows
Colour change to hair colour for 8 rows.
Cast off with darning needle.
Cinch and secure one end - & fold the rest of the work like you would for a beanie & line up all the colours on top of each other. Then cinch and secure the other to form the doll.
*Eyes -
I stuffed the head to work out where I wanted the eyes. I chose 8mm back fastening amigurumi eyes.
I used a small crocheted circle behind each eye inside the head to stop the eye slipping through the stitches. If you can't crochet a circle then a circle of felt will be perfect too.
Once eyes secured remove stuffing for now.
**optional - hair
If you want the groom to have ragdoll style hair, this is the one I used. There are multiple alternative ideas on youtube.
Use the 22pin
No waste yarn. Cast on with hair colour for 25 to 30 rows - depending on your choice. I opted for 25.
Cast off with darning needle.
Cinch both ends & secure like a mini beanie. Hide ends.
I chose to do a more quirky hair, so I secured the wig cap to the doll head, using the hair on the doll as a guide.
I used bamboo pins to secure the wig to the doll before sewing it in place.
See pics.
I then used a box/piece of card to wind the hair yarn around the card - see pic.
Cut the hair off for lengths measuring 8 inches - 20cm
I used a darning needle to thread through each edge stitch of the attached wig. Then secure with a double knot. I worked this along the front, between 2 bamboo pin markers.
I then smoothed the hair back into the style & length i wanted & used a length of yarn to do a long back stitch to secure & act as a hairband. **
*stuffing doll
Stuff head & body to your preference & shape doll - i rub it between my hands like shaping a plasticine sausage.
Once shaped & aligned you need to secure the feet.
I chose to fasten as you would a scarf. I secured the ends with bamboo pins (see image). & sewed them together.
*For legs & feet -
Then count 7 stitches from side of legs then count 17 stitches from the bottom & mark with a bamboo pin or alternative - take a darning needle & length of black yarn secure at bottom of feet and insert by 17th stitch pin. Repeat 5 times, fasten off at bottom. Insert ends into doll to hide.
That forms legs.
*Head -
Take skin colour or shirt colour yarn & attach at rear of doll where face colour meets shirt colour. Then stitch with a running stitch (see pics) around the neck, into each alternate "v" knit stitch. Cinch neck to your preference & secure. I do 2 rounds for extra security.
Take shirt colour and wrap around neck to make a shirt collar. (See pic)
*Arms -
Count 6 stitches down from neck cinch and count 6 stitches towards the back. See pictures.
Use same stitch as legs to secure arm.
Repeat on opposite side for 2 arms.
*optional hands
If you want hands, use baby pink yarn. Attach at rear of arm and use a wrap stitch to form a bucket hand shape.
*Bow-tie*
22 pin sentro/addi
No waste yarn.
Cast on trouser colour for 10 rows. Cast off with darning needle. Cinch both ends.
Shape into a bow-tie shape secure with a bamboo pin or alternative. Use darning needle & same coloured yarn to wrap around the middle of bow-tie. Secure with a long tail.
Use the tail to attach bow-tie to doll and hide ends in doll.
*Thats the basic groom doll done*
**Accessories. Any accessories can be made with a 32" for top hat, i-cord for bow-tie, hand knit, crochet, felt fabric for any accessory.
*Top Hat*
22 pin sentro/addi
No waste yarn.
Cast on in trouser colour for 16 rows.
Cast off with darning needle.
Cinch both ends and form into a flat circle. Like a plate.
Stitch from centre to edge in a normal straight stitch. Then wrap stitch around the edge to stabilise.
Secure ends and hide ends.
Main hat -
22 pin sentro/addi
Use waste yarn for straight ends on tube.
Cast on with waste yarn for 5+ rows. Change to trouser colour yarn. For 32 rows.
Cast off with waste yarn for 5+ rows.
Secure ends of tube as you would normally do.
I use a 4mm crochet hook and join that way, others use a length of yarn & darning needle and wrap stitch. (See pics).
Join stitches before removing waste yarn.
Fold tube length ways - pin together then stitch together to form a thinner tube.
Roll tube so it forms the hat. Secure with bamboo pins then secure with stitches.
Attach to the flat part with darning needle and stitches. Hide ends in hat.
Find where on the Grooms head you want the hat, use a bamboo pin or alternative to attach hat to head. Then stitch on to head. (See pic).
Groom doll is finished.
